Giant Dogwood
(Cornus controversa ‘Variegata’)
Called the ‘Wedding Cake Tree’ for its tiered branch structure and creamy white flowers.
- The Giant Dogwood is native to East Asia and to the Himalayas, and is cultivated in gardens around the world.
- The tree has produces black berries that are fed on by birds, including sparrows and thrushes.
- While most dogwood species have leaves and buds that grow opposite from each other on the stem, the giant dogwood’s are arranged in an alternating pattern, with lots of branching.
