Golden Chain (Laburnum)
Named ‘Golden Chain’ or ‘Golden because of its hanging yellow flowers
- The laburnum is a member of the pea family, and produces pods similar to edible pea pods. You wouldn’t want to eat them, however, as they are extremely poisonous.
- The wood from the laburnum has historically been used to make musical instruments and for decorative inlay work.
- Despite its toxicity to humans, the larvae of some butterfly and moth species use it as a food plant, including the buff-tip moth.
