Yew Tree (Taxus baccarat)


Traditionally grown in churchyards

  • The wood of the yew tree has historically been used to make musical instruments, including the lute.
  • The entire plant is poisonous, except for its berries. The poison can be absorbed through the skin.
  • The yew is often associated with immortality in mythology, due to both being long lived (the tree can live for at least 600 years) and to being evergreen.
