Gingko (Gingko biloba)

Known as a ‘Living Fossil’ because of how long the species has existed.

  • The Gingko tree is highly resistant to pollution and disease, and damage from weather or insects.
  • Ginkgo trees even survived the atomic bomb at Hiroshima.
  • The Gingko tree has a symbiotic relationship with micro alga, a type of algae that lives inside its tissues.
  • The oldest recorded Gingko tree is 3,500 years old.
