Katsura Tree
(Cercidiphyllum japonicum)
Known for its heart-shaped leaves that become brightly coloured in the fall.
- The leaves of the tree have a sweet, caramel like scent in the fall. Because of this, the tree is known as the Gingerbread Tree in German
- As indicated by its Latin name, the Katsura tree is native to Japan and China. It takes its common name from a town in Japan.
- The Katsura produces separate male and female trees, with the male trees having red flowers while the female has green.
